No End in Sight for High Wholesale Prices
Used-car demand remains robust both in the lanes and at dealers’ lots.
Black Book managing editor Ricky Beggs reported that 80 percent of adjustments were raises last week. That’s after Manheim reported record-high prices in March.
“While we can attribute much of the strength over the past month to limited supply at auction, we also must note that strong consumer demand supports rising values,” said Juan Flores, director of vehicle valuation for Kelley Blue Book Flores said several factors were driving consumers toward used, including the weak economy.
Many consumers are buying used because of the lower prices. They are either unwilling or unable to take on a lot more debt.
They usually have to finance some of the purchase, though. So it also helps used demand that credit markets are loosening.
“For these reasons, Kelley Blue Book expects that values will remain strong for many segments in the short term, especially if attractive financing opportunities remain available for consumers,” Flores said.
The market remains hot in the highline and exotic space and selection is slim. Because of the pent up demand and limited supply of "right" cars, prices are trending up. It is in your best interest not to delay before the adjustment effects your wallet !!! Many people are hesitating to commit, thinking there is that "better deal" out there and then are surprised, and very disappointed, to find that someone beat them to that car they were picturing in their driveway.
